My camera skills decline as the free fine wine flows; however this is actually quite pretty...

I captured some sort of transcendental event this girl was having in response to Jason's work...(or it was the wine and my camera not getting along).

A creepy photo that I love.

For the Beautiful is nothing but the onset of the Terrible... Selected works by Jason Ransom. Show Opens July 2, 2011.

"for the Beautiful is nothing but the onset of the Terrible..."
Selected works by Jason Ransom.

Cueto James Art Gallery is proud to announce our next show, exhibiting the works of the very talented Houston artist Jason Ransom. His style and execution are nothing short of breathtaking - he is a truly individual and emotive painter. Ransom has the ability to use oil paint as though the colors themselves were raw emotions, and the unique brushstrokes speak more volumes than words could ever hope to. He somehow manages to create pieces that are devastating, beautiful, bleak, and terrifying - usually simultaneously, and to an astounding effect. You will be incredibly moved by what you see. It's just that simple.

We hope you'll join us for the opening of "for the Beautiful is nothing but the onset of the Terrible..." Selected Works by Jason Ransom at Cueto James Art Gallery. Fine wine will be served at the event. Further details are listed below.

Artist Jason Ransom: 2011 Finalist for the prestigious Hunting Art Prize.

Cueto James Art Gallery's next artist, the incomparable Jason Ransom, was chosen as a finalist for the Hunting Art Prize, an incredibly prestigious award for artists (you can read more about it below or follow the link). The gallery is proud to have an artist of this caliber gracing the walls of our gallery! His show opens July 2nd, so stay tuned for more info about that.

The Hunting Art Prize, which is sponsored by the international oil services company Hunting PLC, is a prestigious annual competition open to established artists, talented newcomers, and promising amateurs. Its $50,000 award is historically the most generous annual award in North America for painting and drawing and has helped to build the reputations, raise the profiles, and support the careers of distinguished artists.

The Hunting Art Prize was established in 1981, and emerged as one of the United Kingdom’s leading art competitions before relocating to Houston in 2006. Today, the commitment upon which it was originally built remains as strong as ever: To provide artists the recognition they have earned, the sponsorship they deserve, and the opportunity to have their work viewed and discussed by as broad an audience as possible.

Houston Artist Jason Ransom: Biography.

JASON RANSOM

The search for something meaningful and true - this has been my focus now for the past eighteen years.

In the three years I have been painting, I have used many of my life experiences to create a work that is both meaningful and true to me: whether it was from my years in the military, years spent in religious devotion practicing Orthodox Judaism, or from the years in which I struggled with depression, all these experiences and many more have shaped the paintings into their current form.

My main focus while I am painting is to project a raw, exposed and truthful emotion upon the canvas. The subject of my paintings, for me, comes secondary and is used only as a vehicle to carry the weight and intensity of certain emotions.

Houston has been my home now for two years, and I currently work out of the Hardy/Nance Street Studios located in the Downtown Warehouse District.
